The actor is said to have been diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago but had not made the information public. The news has left fans and the film world stunned. He died at his home in Los Angeles, with his wife and family by his side his publicist Nicki Fioravante said.

Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first-star turn in 2013. Though it was 2018’s Black Panther that made Boseman a household name. As well as Black Panther, Boseman went on to feature in other Marvel films such as Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War. Black Panther was the only superhero film to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Boseman is believed to have married his long-term partner, singer Taylor Simon Ledward, earlier this year. The couple had no children together. He originally wanted to be a writer and director and appeared in a number of TV roles while continuing to write plays.
